Another wonderful thing about Catalina Island is that about 88% of the Island was donated to the Catalina Island Conservancy. These are photos I took while hiking around the ‘airport in the sky’ near the top of the Island. I got more photos on a camera (these are from my phone) - even one of Bison! I’ll see when I can load those if I ever get to it! :) There are many great camping and hiking areas here for the nature lover in all of us. (OK, most of us.)

On April 5, 2010, WikiLeaks released the classified Collateral Murder video to the public.
The video shows an Apache helicopter indiscriminately firing on a dozen people, including two Reuters staff, in Baghdad. Later in the footage, rescuers, including two children, were also targeted.
The footage was leaked to WikiLeaks by Pfc. B. Manning, who has been in prison for 1046 days. Manning’s detention conditions have been found to be “cruel, inhuman & degrading” by UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Juan E. Mendez.

I went to Catalina Island for the first time last week! Here are photos of the The Catalina Casino/ Ballroom/ Theater of Santa Catalina Island I took. I enjoyed the island and this building is amazingly preserved.

Child Anthropologist Accepted by Pug Tribe
A young anthropologist named Jackson has been living among a New Jersey tribe of pugs since early 2011 in order to document their complex social interactions.
“It’s really the disguise — an oversized pug face T-shirt — that has endeared him to the family group,” says Dr. Marc Henning, a colleague familiar with Jackson’s research. “They have truly accepted him as one of their own — eating together, sleeping in the same huts. To my knowledge, no one has been able to study this remote group so intimately.”
Jackson is set to publish his first paper in the journal Pug Science this August, but has no intention of returning to civilization.
“He’ll likely remain embedded with the tribe for a few more years,” says Dr. Henning. “The opportunity to collect more data here is too important.”

These pictures are from yesterday - I went to see my little sister Mariah Heller dance and sing in FLASH: A New Choreography by Qudus Onikeku! It was an amazing SHOW! The mixture of contemporary music and different horrifying stories of human history was beautiful. I was so impressed with Mariah and all of the other performers in this wonderful piece by Mr. Onikeku. Thank You all for the great work you did, hardly a dry eye in the audience! :)
